Welcome to Yaowawit Newsletter for the months of July and August!

Here are our highlights!

 

Activities:

 

07/07/07:

We had our Sports Day, which all the kids and staff enjoyed ourselves very

much. Each team (Pink and Blue) spent a few hours after school for about 3

weeks practicing sports and cheering songs.

 

 

We had many kinds of games and sports such as running, tug of war,

volleyball, soccer, etc.

 

 

 

The concept and purpose of the Sports Day is to strengthen our unity, and to

learn how to lose, to win, and to forgive.

 

 

Our dedicated volunteer director, Man Sooksawee, kindly granted the children medals.

 

12/07/07:

Our beloved founder of Children’s World Academy Foundation, Philipp Graf

von Hardenberg, returned to Yaowawit for the second time this year.

 

 

We took this chance to organize a party to welcome him and some

“friends” of our school in Kapong community.

The children were very excited because they got to show their

performances, especially the traditional shows.

 

 

27/07/07:

Yaowawit children joined the Candle parade in Kapong town together with

children from other schools in town. Cha-aim, one of our kindgergarten kids was

chosen to lead the parade.

 

 

12/08/07:

On Mother’s Day, we invited the abbot from Nainod temple to talk to the children

about mothers, and had a religious ceremony to share merit with our mothers.

 

 

We then all helped plant jasmine trees around the school (jasmine represents

the pure love of mothers).

 

 

Achievement:

 

Our sporty little boy, Leem, won the third place in swimming competition

of Phang Nga province

Leem is now in grade 5. Besides swimming and soccer that he likes, he also

loves to study English with our volunteers.

 

 

Volunteers:

 

We have been very lucky that we have wonderful volunteers from around

the world to help out at the school. Besides volunteer English teachers, we have

had volunteer sports teachers and even a doctor. So we do get support in so

many ways.

 

15/08/07:

Our volunteers had a health activity to encourage children not to be scared

of doctors.

 

 

 

Fiona (She's been with us for a year!), Anna, and Dominique showed the children

how doctors and nurses check up their patients such as how to measure the blood

pressure and taught how blood pressure affects the body.

 

 

James teaches English to both children and staff. Josh teaches sports to the children.

 

A million thanks to all our volunteers from our beginning up to now.

Without your kind support, we wouldn’t have been as well looked after

as today.

Visits and Support:

 

Many thanks for the kind visits and support that we’ve always been given.

We realize you could have chosen to visit and support many other projects, but

you chose us to be in your plan. Sorry we cannot mention all, but we do

appreciate your generous support very much. Because of all the help, the

children now have computers, uniforms, sports shoes, sports equipment, etc.

 

 

Dr. Sunya Ratjatawan (Tsunami Children Foundation) decided to provide

psychological support to Yaowawit children by training teachers and nannies

weekly to understand children’s nature and be able to identify their psychological

problems as well as learn how to deal with each case.

 

 

Nobuko (Japan) showed children how to cook a Japanese dish “Okinomiyaki”

and taught the children how to fold paper into shapes, which is a Japanese art

called “Origami”

 

 

Others:

 

• Hotel school and guest rooms:

 

We have been very excited about our hotel school, which will open by

the beginning of next year. We are also thrilled about the generous offer of SEG

(Swiss Education Group) to become our partner in our hotel school curriculum

and operation.

This will enable us to teach our children the hospitality skills, and at the same

time earn income for our school operations.

 

 

• Paw and his new life:

 

After his leg operation 3 months ago, Paw is now trying hard to practice

walking properly. He has been very excited about this, and also about his

sport shoes that he was never able to wear before.

His friends have been very cooperative and helpful in encouraging Paw to

walk properly.

2. Give a scholarship to a child

 

We do have a scholarship program for those of you who are interested in

having a long-term support for a child:

• € 30, - per month to secure covering the costs for food, clothes, medical

care and qualified personnel to take care of them

• € 50, - per month to secure a first-class education by covering the costs

for teachers, school materials and teaching devices

• € 80, - per month, with a very generous donation of € 80 per month, you

would cover the costs for everything we need to educate and raise your

child

 

3. Donate materials

 

We also do appreciate any materials such as stationery, books, clothes,

shoes, personal hygiene products, or anything that is necessary for the

childrens' living.

 

4. Visit and stay in our guest rooms

 

We offer cozy and comfortable rooms for you should you wish to stay

and enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery. We also encourage you to

observe our activities and participate in certain activities such as cooking

classes.

The room fee will be in the form of a minimum donation, which has not yet

been decided upon. Of course, we will be delighted if you generously choose

to pay more than this amount. Again, these donations will be used directly

for the school operation expenses.
